Sick as Dogs

Well Sunday was perfect and Monday was hell. First I got a migraine and ended up home throwing up. Then The Man came home and he was sick. Tuesday he was running a temp of 102 and he still had it this morning. I still have my migraine. I went in for a CT Scan this morning so hopefully we'll figure out why my head hurts all the time. In the mean time its alot of asprin and quiet. I told The Man that if he's still running a fever tomorrow then he's in to see the doc immediately. He's stubborn you know; doesn't want to take any medicine, stuff like that. Well he's singing a different tune now that his colon has been reeking havoc on him for the past 2 days. I don't think he'll be back to school tomorrow but he will be pumped full of meds!

So, I haven't been in the studio working on the quilt. When I get back to feeling human, I'll take some pictures for you to see. I'm really excited about it. Its so cute. I can't wait for her to see it. I'll be making another soon enough. I found out last night that another friend of mine is having a boy! Must be something in the water! I'll be starting on that one a little later on since we've got several months yet.

That's all for right now. Looking at the screen is getting rough. Until next time... Ya'll have a good one!!

Awesome Day

It was a truly awesome day here at The Farm. The temp was about 60, The Man and Poppa were building things together, Step-Mommie and I were relaxing, the girls were playing....it was awesome.

We went and looked at some fruit trees, then scouted out a place for them. I then headed to the studio and almost finished the quilt top for a friends baby. I'll post pics once I get it finished.

Now we're all winding down. I'm trying to figure out what to do for dinner. Think we might go grab something. Not in the mood to cook.

I hope ya'll had as great a weekend as we did.

I'll write more this week! Until then, Ya'll have fun!

It's Almost Over

This week has been so crazy! We had snow on Monday and Tuesday which messed up my schedule. The Man was out of school on Tuesday which made me want to stay home too. But duty calls so I worked. I'm just ready for the weekend.

The best part of the week was that Poppa and Step-Mommie finally made it in. Now that we've got our "neighbors" back it feels normal again. I hadn't realized just how much I missed them til they pulled in the drive way.

Don't have any major plans for the weekend. Just gonna hang around The Farm and get some things done. Hopefully I can spend most of it in the studio! I've got tons of things to do.

Not much else going on. Waiting for the weather to warm up and the yard to dry out. The girls are getting cabin fever bad. They haven't been able to get out and run in the pasture because of all the water. I feel so bad for them. We've been trying to keep them occupied with toys but you can tell that they just want to get out and run. Hopefully that will happen soon.

Watching DIY Network and now I have the urge to remodel my kitchen. I wonder what stock cabinets cost?? Don't want anything special, just better than what we've got, which is terrible and starting to fall apart. Need new countertops too. If only I had a couple grand lying around. Might have to start playing the Lotto. I want it to look something like this. A girl can dream! I think its do-able.

Its almost Friday. Hope you have a good weekend. If I do/make anything interesting, I'll let you know.

Ya'll have a good one!

Feeling Very Polish

Good Morning!!! Well I feel great after a good nights sleep. Now I'm able to tell you about my amazing day yesterday. Its gonna take a while so grab a cup and something to munch on!!

First I'd like to introduce a major player in this story. This is Stephanie, my great-grandmother. Besides being one of my grandmothers, she is my inspiration.

This is her senior portrait. Fortunately she saved everything so I have alot of her stuff including her senior annual where I found this picture.

This is her in later years. It was cool making all these yummy things because alot of the utencils and bowls I used were hers. My grandfather remembers her cooking very vividly.

Ok, on with the show. So, we're polish and being polish means 3 things in our family: we're catholic, we like to partake in the drink, and we EAT!!! Two things that Stephanie made were Pierogis, potato dumplings, and Paczki (pronounced Ponch-key) which are a Polish jelly doughnut, but better. Now we haven't had paczki in a long time, since my uncle passed, so it was a big deal to make them. So we all decided it was time to start making them again and it was time for me to learn how.

The recipe is easy, the procedure is long. The dough has to rise 4 times!! Its literally an all day thing. In between the risings I made pierogies, lots of pierogies! This is the procedure in a nut shell, starting with my amazing shirt!!!

I made it just for the occation. I know as soon as Mable sees it she'll be wanting one!

Paczki start with alot of egg yolks. This is one of Stephanie's bowls!!

Then you have to whisk them all up. Thats Stephs egg mixer too! Then you add in a bunch of flour and yeast and let it rise. Then you punch it down and let it rise again!!

Now comes the fun part. Now you have to fill the dough with your favorite jelly. We used blackberry and blueberry, made by Mother and I, and the family favorite, red plum. This is the hardest part because the filling technique is difficult. You have to make sure that you seal the dough completely or the jelly will ooze out when you fry them.

Once you get them all filled and sealed up right. You let them rise again!

Once they've doubled in size, they're ready to fry. Then you coat them in powdered sugar and devour, well at least once they've cooled because that hot jelly is like molten lava.

Thats it. The pierogies were a bit easier. They're just dough then you cut them in circles, fill, boil, and eat.

So we had a Polish feast and everyone, especially my grandfather, was on cloud nine!
Now I have to go help The Man clean up the house. Ya'll have a good one and a Happy Valentine's Day.

It's Been a While

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. We had a very BIG weekend. Busy Busy Busy. Friday night we went to a local auction. Its basically a junk auction be we like to go and see what rediculous things people bid on. This week was actually pretty good. I got three things. Take a peek...

I don't know what I'm going to do with the canisters yet. Definately paint them...but other than that I'm at a loss. I just loved them. I'll let you know when I get to them.
Saturday we went up to Nashville for a little shopping and we stopped to visit with old friends. We ended up staying very late but it was good to see everyone. I miss them all so much. My friend Autumn is 8 months pregnant and got huge!!!! I can't wait for the baby to come. I'm working on her quilt as we speak. When I get it done I'll let you peek.
Well I'm about done for tonight. The Man has class all night so I'm on my own. Gonna grab something for dinner and head to the studio.
Ya'll have a good one.

Hump Day

I was supposed to show you some pictures of what I've been working on. Sorry it took so long. Its been a hectic couple of days. Without further ado.....

This is the string quilt. I thought I was done but I mis-calculated and I need to make 40 more squares!! I know, how could I have made that kind of mistake!! But I did so now I've got a bit more to do. Doesn't it look good though?!

This is my inspiration board. I've got some more things to put up but I can't find them!! But I've got my silver spoons and some embroidery. All kinds of good things. I look at this and smile. Of course I had to put up some Team Jacob love!!

Teacup Pincushion

Button Flowers. I got the idea here. Aren't they cute? You'll be seeing them again.
I'll show you the rest when I get everything done.
Had a rough day at work. One of our sales reps got fired and our new boss announced that she was going back to her old paper. So now we'll have another new boss!!! Its been crazy!!! In that light I came home and....you guessed it....cooked. I was in the mood for a real country meal so this is what we had.

Purple Hull Peas, from our garden, and Salt Pork

Home-Made Biscuits

Fried Chicken and Potato Salad

And for dessert...biscuits and honey!!

Now there is nothing better than biscuits and honey. I LOVE honey. I love honey so much that I want to start keeping bees in the spring so that I can have honey all the time. I love bees too, so I think keeping them would be very appropriate. Plus they'll help us out with the garden, which by the way is going to be awesome. I've been talking to Mabel about some new things we want to plant...like watermelon radishes and purple cauliflower. Some different things that will set us apart from all the usual tomatoes and summer squash. She's got alot of good ideas. Of course she does, food is her life!!!
So yea...that's about it for today. Think I'm going to head to the studio and play some more.
Ya'll have a good one!

The Melt Down

Well the ice and snow is finally melting. It was a pretty rough weekend. Luckily we had power the whole time. I was busy in the studio. I'll be taking pictures tonight so you'll see what I've been up to tomorrow. I've got to work on some blankets I'm doing for a local school. They give them to their benefactors. Its something nice I can do.

The Man has class tonight so I'll be by myself the rest of the night. I wish I could play in the studio but I've got to get all our tax stuff together. I HATE TAXES!!!!! I wish they, our government, would make this time of year a little easier. That's all I'm gonna say.

Work was busy today. I didn't stop til about 2pm. Unfortunately I didn't eat and got really really dizzy and shaky. Diabetes runs in my family and I'm always aware of the fact. I've had problems with my blood sugar before but it hasn't been that bad in a while. I need to make sure that I stop and snack at least. Need to keep myself healthy, especially if there's a baby in the near future.

I know its a short post but there's not much else going on. I'll have more tomorrow.

Ya'll have a good night!
