Good Weekend

It was a pretty good holiday. I got half the day off work and got home just in time for the family to head down to The Farm for a cook out. The Man got a new Webber grill which got broken in with BBQ chicken and some hot dogs. There was also some green rice, potato salad, tomato salad, green bean salad, onions with blue cheese, and a ton of desserts courtesy of my wonderful mother. The whole family was here and we spent the afternoon laughing and carrying on as usual.

Now The Man, Mable, and I are cleaning up and then its to the couches for a movie. Mable has been home for a couple days now and it has been great spending time with her. I miss her terribly and I love every moment I get with her. Last night was a blast. We grilled pork steaks, ate el fresco, and had Smores' for dessert. Tomorrow it's back to the grind but at least she's staying one more day!!! I'm excited about that.

There's not much going on in other news. The Man is out on summer vacation...lucky. Don't worry I'll be keeping him busy....he just doesn't know it yet. Poppa and Step-Mommie are in Southern Illinois for the holiday weekend so we're without our neighbors, which has been kind of awkward. Hopefully they'll be back soon...I know the girls miss their Nannie Jeanie.

I guess that's about it for now. Ya'll have a good holiday.

Highlights

Good Morning!!! Finally found some time to show you all whats been going on 'round these parts. Firstly, The Man made me the quintessential country accessory....a clothesline. Its awesome!!! What country home would be without one. Plus if flows with our self-sustainability theme. The Man pulled the plans off line and did it in a weekend. Check it out!

This was a brilliant addition....The Man took some of our old coffee containers...you know the plastic red ones, painted them my favorite color, turquoise, and screwed them to each of the posts. Voila...instant clothespin holder! Talk about recycling! He's so smart.

All of my roses are in full bloom. I love them so much that I'm planting 2 more rose bushes this year, a JFK and an Arizona. Hopefully they'll thrive as much as the other two have.

The beginning of the summer means a couple things around the farm, 1) planting the garden and 2) haying the fields, both of which have happened. There's just something about seeing those huge bails in the fields that I love so much, especially when you see all the beautiful green grass underneath. Lord, when did I turn into such a country girl?!

The Man and I really went all out this year on the garden, as you have heard. Hopefully everything will flourish and we'll get a really good crop. Its hard work but so worth it in the winter months, something we learned first hand this year. Isn't he so cute? I love my farmer!

Well that's about it for now. Hopefully the sun will come out and we can go spend an hour or so with the bees. I'll definitely have some pictures then considering we haven't seen them in over a week!! I'm sure they've been busy.
Until then Ya'll have a good weekend!!!

The Verdict Is In

For the past several months now my hands have been really bothering me...really achy, falling asleep while I sleep, and really sore during the day. They've even been keeping me awake at night. To be brutally honest they've been bothering me for over a year now but its just recently that they've irritated me enough to see a doctor about it. The verdict...classical carpal tunnel in both hands.

Yep!! So, I got a shot in both wrists and some braces to try for a couple months. If that doesn't work then its surgery for ole Gladys. The good part is that I caught it early and I'm intelligent enough to do something about it.

In other news, we finally got the garden in. Among the previous things stated we've planted 2 types of peas, pole beans, radishes, beets, zucchini, squash, cantaloupe, watermelon, and a lot of corn! Needless to say, we'll be busy this summer. Its a good thing The Man has 2 months off!!! He'll be helping me put all this wonderful veggie goodness up.

Been discussing adding to the farm lately. The Man and I feel the addition of cow and chickens are necessary. Hopefully they will come in the near future along with our second hive of bees. If only we had the funds to purchase the 25 acres next door.... a girl can dream!

Well, I think I'll give my hands a rest. Next time I'll include some new pics of the bees and the farm. Ya'll have a good one!

I'm Alive

Its been a while!! We've been a little busy around here. Mable graduated from college this past weekend so we were out of town for that. I am so proud of her. I will post pictures when I have them....idiot me forgot the camera. It inspired me to grab the bull by the horns and apply to graduate school myself....something I've been putting off for a while now. It was a fun trip and I can't wait til Mable comes home, hopefully soon, for a visit.

The Man and I are gearing up for the gardening season. We started planting today: tomatoes ( 3 different kinds), bell peppers, cayenne peppers, jalapenos, and okra. We'll be putting in all the seeds either tomorrow or Thursday and there are a lot of those....corn, cucumbers, beans, squash, zucchini, purple hull peas, carrots, radishes....all kinds of good stuff!!! I know it seems like a lot for 2 people but we grow for the entire family and we sell some as well. I also put up a lot for the fall and winter months but more on that later. As soon as we get everything in I'll give you a grand total of everything we've got.

We're also getting ready for a second bee hive. We got a huge order in yesterday with all the pieces for the new hive. Now all we have to do is get it together and wait for the phone call to pick up our bees. We haven't been into the hive in a week or so to check on the bees so we'll be doing that in the next couple of days as well. I'll make sure to take pictures!

The Man gets out for summer vacation soon and I'm getting jealous. How I wish I had 2 months off with him. I can only imagine the things I could get done. I have to make sure I get a "Honey Do" list going because he's definitely not sitting around watching cartoons while I'm working all day! =)

Think I'll stop here for tonight. Hopefully I'll be back soon with some pictures!! Until then....Ya'll make it a good one!!!
